On a couple of those chances, the Preds didn't make it too hard for Darling. For example, Smith would've had a goal off of that cross-slot pass if he'd elevated the puck instead of shooting into Darling's pad. Darling was good, but you can't just chalk it up to bad luck for the Preds when Darling always seems to perform like this against you. When there's a pattern like that, there's something that you're not doing well enough to solve him.
That said, they still got 3 goals by him. If they would've been better on defense and allowed less than 3, themselves, Darling wouldn't have been an issue. Putting burden on the offense to score 4 or more goals is going to end up in disappointment more often than not, and the more that you do that, the more that it going to seem that opposing goaltenders are standing on their heads when you play them. |
